AI Planner

AI Planner is a Chrome extension for Google Chrome that helps you plan your day using Google Calendar, Google Tasks, Gmail, and Gemini AI. It optionally connects to your Google account to display and manage your planning information.

AI Planner turns your Chrome side panel or new tab into a daily, weekly and monthly planning journal. It helps you capture priorities, tasks, goals, habits and journal notes in one place, and uses Gemini AI to organize your notes and draft planning briefs. When you optionally connect your Google account, the planner can show your recent Gmail highlights, upcoming Google Calendar events and Google Tasks alongside your plan, and back up your data to your own private Google Drive folder. Everything stays on your device — AI Planner runs no servers of its own.

Purpose of this app

What AI Planner is for

AI Planner is a free Chrome extension that gives you a clean, focused workspace for daily priorities, weekly goals and monthly reviews. It opens in the Chrome side panel or replaces the new-tab page, so planning is always one keystroke away.

Its purpose is to help you plan and journal in one place — capture priorities, tasks, goals, habits and notes, and use Gemini AI to organize them and draft planning briefs. When you choose to connect your Google account, AI Planner uses that access solely to display and manage your planning information inside the planner:

  • Google Calendar — shows your upcoming events alongside your plan (read-only).
  • Google Tasks — displays your existing tasks and lets you add a new task or mark one complete from the planner; it never deletes tasks or lists.
  • Gmail — summarizes recent unread email (subject, sender and snippet from the last 2 days) so you can act on bills and follow-ups; full message bodies are never read, and no email is ever sent, deleted or modified.
  • Google Drive — backs up your planner data to your own private Drive folder for cross-device access.

Google account integration is entirely optional. AI Planner works fully as a manual planner with all data stored locally on your device, and it runs no servers of its own.

Gemini AI

How Gemini AI helps you plan

Gemini AI is optional and runs on your own Google Gemini API key. Only the planner text you ask it to work on is sent to Google's Gemini API — governed by Google's Gemini API Terms. Nothing is routed through or stored on an AI Planner server.

Quick Capture sorting

What it does: jot or speak a quick thought and Gemini reads it and files it into the right place — a priority, a task, a goal, a habit or a journal note — so you capture first and organize automatically.

What is sent: only the note you capture. Gemini returns the suggested category, which the planner applies on your device.

Planning briefs

What it does: Gemini reads the entries you already have and drafts a short daily or weekly brief — a plain-language summary of what's on your plate and what to focus on — so you start the day oriented instead of staring at a blank page.

What is sent: only the planner entries you choose to summarize. Gemini returns the brief text, shown in the planner.

Priority suggestions

What it does: based on the context already in your plan, Gemini suggests what to prioritize next — surfacing the items that matter most so you spend less time deciding and more time doing.

What is sent: only the relevant planner context. Gemini returns suggested priorities for you to accept or ignore — you stay in control.

You bring your own Gemini API key, so AI usage runs under your Google account and terms. Leave AI features off and AI Planner works fully as a manual planner — no data ever leaves your device.

Get your free Gemini API key

The key is free from Google AI Studio and takes about a minute. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Open aistudio.google.com/apikey.
  2. Sign in with the Google account you want to use.
  3. Click Create API key.
  4. If prompted, pick an existing Google Cloud project or let it create one for you.
  5. Your new key appears (it starts with AIza…). Click the copy icon to copy it.
  6. In AI Planner, open Settings, paste the key into the Gemini API key field, and save.

Your key is stored only in Chrome's local storage on your device and is used solely to call Gemini directly — it is never sent to an AI Planner server.

Google permissions

Why AI Planner asks for Google access

Connecting your Google account is optional. If you do, AI Planner requests only these scopes, and uses them solely to show your information inside the planner. Nothing is sent to or stored on an AI Planner server.

Google Calendar Read-only

Scope: calendar.readonly — “See and download any calendar you can access using your Google Calendar.”

Why: to display your events for today, the current week and the current month next to your plan, and to generate a personalized daily brief — so you can plan around meetings without leaving the side panel.

How the data is used: read-only. AI Planner reads only each event's title, time and status to render them in the planner. It never creates, edits or deletes calendar events, and never stores them on a server.

Gmail Read-only

Scope: gmail.readonly — “View your email messages and settings.”

Why: to show a lightweight summary of your recent unread email — the subject, sender and snippet of unread threads from the past 2 days (excluding Promotions, Social, Forums and Spam) — so you can spot bills and follow-ups that need to go on your plan.

How the data is used: read-only. AI Planner reads only the subject, sender and snippet of recent unread threads to build the summary shown in the planner — it never opens full message bodies, and never sends, deletes or modifies any email. Snippets may be sent to Google's Gemini API to classify which items are actionable, then discarded. Nothing is stored on a server (the extension has no backend), and email data is never used for ads, sold, or used to train models, in line with Google API Services Limited Use requirements.

Google Tasks Read & write

Scope: tasks — “Create, edit, organize, and delete all your tasks.”

Why: to show your existing Google Tasks inside the planner and let you add a new task and mark tasks complete directly from it. Adding and completing tasks requires write access, so the read-only Tasks scope is insufficient.

How the data is used: read and write. AI Planner performs only list, insert and status-update operations — it reads your task lists and titles to display them, and writes back only the tasks you add or complete in the planner. It never deletes task lists, bulk-modifies unrelated data, or stores anything on a server.

Privacy first

Your plans stay yours

AI Planner runs no backend servers. Your entries and API key live only in Chrome's local storage on your device.

  • Local by default. Every entry, priority and goal saves to Chrome's local storage — never to an AI Planner server.
  • You hold the key. Gemini AI uses your own API key. Google account features are opt-in and clearly labeled.
  • Delete anytime. Clear local data from settings, or uninstall to auto-erase everything. Read the privacy policy →
